State Highway 5 near Wairakei has been reopened following a crash earlier today.
A police north communications spokesman said the crash happened around 12.30pm and involved a car and a truck.
Police have only recently arrived but there would be diversions. A rescue helicopter was called to take a seriously
injured person to hospital.
An eyewitness said it looked like someone was trapped in the car and emergency services were trying to get them out.
She said "it looks quite bad".
