Two people are injured after a crash on State Highway 5 between Rotorua and Tirau.

The two-vehicle crash happened around 6.40am at Ngatira.

“Initial indications suggest two people have sustained injuries,” a police spokesperson said.

Police said in a statement roading staff were working to reopen one lane of SH5 but motorists were still advised to expect significant delays today.

Major roadworks are also under way on SH30 south of Rotorua.

Police advise motorists to consider these factors when planning travel in the area today.

Inquiries into the crash are under way.
