A local school is putting on a garage sale to bring the community together.

Westbrook School associate principal Mrs Rachel Weinberg said the community garage sale, organised by the Friends of the School group, will take place on Saturday, August 19 between 8am and 11am.

"It gets the community together, it's a good thing to do on a Saturday morning."

A table at the event costs $20, with the money going to the primary school.

Mrs Weinberg said any further money raised by the vendors was theirs to keep.

Items brought along in previous years have included unwanted clothing, books and small items of furniture.

"It's our mid-winter fundraiser. It's a good time [of year] as people have stuff to clean out."

Westbrook School would also be putting on a sausage sizzle to raise money.

Mrs Weinberg said the school put on other fundraising events throughout the year, such as a gala in term one.

Eight or nine families had signed up to have a table so far, she said.

"Last year we had 17 families involved, but we expect in the last few days we will get more."
