"It was a very fiery game with lots of high tackles going in, but we were expecting that from two sides in need of points."
United started the stronger of the two sides, in a mistake riddled opening few phases of the game, taking the lead when winger Darren Siteine slid over after four minutes.
However, a flurry of four tries in the space of 11 minutes, six minutes later from Pikiao's Seth Waller, Tekaiaotea Tahuriorangi, Unuwai and Lorne Green put the hosts out of sight.
The pick of the bunch was Tahuriorangi's after rapid centre Percy King opened up the United defence with a darting break from half way before offloaded to the scrum half on the left wing after 12 minutes.
The visitors gave themselves a life line on the stroke of half-time when United's Zairon Ashbrook athletically rose above Pikiao's defence to crash over from a looping high kick across field taking United 24-10 down into the break.
And Pikiao were slow out the starting blocks in the second half - conceding a third try just three minutes in when United's hooker battled over from a few yards out after several defensive lapses from the home side.
But immediately Unuwai eased the pressure for his team sliding over twice in the space of 10 minutes, either side of a impressive King try, who converted all three taking the score to 42-14 after 56 minutes.
The best being Unuwai's second of the game after full back Quentin Ryan tore open the United defence with a mazy run down the centre of the pitch before off loading comfortably to the loose forward a few yards before the try line after 45 minutes.
Pikiao's dominant performance was completed by hooker Green who capped off an impressive performance running under the posts after being released by a strong and powerful King run through the heart of United's then exhausted defence.
King converted, sealing an excellent kicking display - only missing one out of eight during the game.
Lingman was happy with the two points, but was disappointed that his side failed to stick to the game plan.
"A lot of players put in excellent performances, like Douglas and Percy and it was great to see Tahuriorangi back in the side because he really was tough in the middle for us," he said.
" But we need to complete the sets and stick to the game plan. They still went away from it today, they tried to match United upfront and we wanted to try and get it wider.
"So it will be back to the basics again this week and stay to the structure."
United's head coach Philip Siteine was disheartened with the result, however is expecting to see a great improvement in the second half of the season.
"Unfortunately things didn't go our way today. We came down here a little bit under strength, but that isn't an excuse," he said.
"High tackles came into the game because of frustration of the players, fatigue, not understanding the interpretation of the referee. We want to eradicate it out of our game.
"A positive though is that we had a few players from our reserve side step up today and it will be good to see their development and how they adapt to premiership level.
"We haven't yet played at full strength so we are hoping to change things in the second round. We have a lot of players that are out injured that are due back very shortly so I am hoping to get a better performance out of them in the second round."
Next weekend Pikiao will travel to Ngaruawahia to take on Turangawaewae whilst Ngongotaha Chiefs host Otumoetai Eels.
