If ever you needed an excuse to go shopping, here's one - it'll only cost you $10 and that money goes towards a great cause.

The latest Child Cancer Foundation fundraiser, Clothes Swap for a Cause, is taking place in Rotorua next Saturday, August 9.

Child Cancer Foundation Lakes branch chairwoman Win Macmillan said the clothes swap was a novel way to raise awareness and some much needed funds at the same time.

"We're always looking at ways to get our message out there and to support the many families in our area that have been touched by the devastating diagnosis of child cancer."

The clothes swap was a really simple and fun way of doing that, she added.

"Everyone brings along a few items of good quality unwanted clothes and accessories. These are then displayed for everyone to see and then you get to try on and take whatever takes your fancy."

The event is being run by WorksWonders.

It's the first time a clothes swap had been held as a fundraiser locally, Mrs Macmillan said.

"They've held them in other areas like Wellington and they've been very successful."

The money will help support families in the Lakes district.

A workshop was also planned for earlier in the day for mums of children with cancer.

"We thought this was a fun way to finish off the day and to open up the event to the general public."
