New Zealand National Jaguar Rally
Rotorua residents are in for a treat this weekend with about 150 cool cats from all over the country heading to the city to take part in the New Zealand National Jaguar Rally.
For the first time the rally will be coming to Rotorua withthe cars and their drivers heading to the Village Green on Saturday for a "show and shine" with the public invited to come down and see some of the best cars to have come out of Britain.
Organising committee member John Endean said Jaguar was undoubtedly the greatest English car marque ever produced, and was also celebrating nearly 100 years of manufacture.
"With over 150 vehicles on display -- ranging from an early Swallow Sidecar combination, Swallow cars, SS cars -- right up to the latest F-Type supercharged Jaguar sports car, we have a great range of Jaguars heading to Rotorua.
"There will be concourse judging, people's choice and in the afternoon, weather permitting, some owners will take their cars to Arawa Park Racing Club to participate in a gymkhana with driving tests.
"We have chosen Rotorua Hospice as our charity for the weekend."
Rotorua's Bruce Jamieson will be displaying his impressive rare 2001 Jaguar XKR Silverstone at the event. "When I was a young fulla a Jaguar was something you aspired to."
