The idea to hold the event began to take shape in January. "I got back from a holiday in Las Vegas and thought it would be cool to see everyone again. I put the idea out to a few former classmates who live locally and got some positive feedback."
Since January, Facebook, the White Pages and word of mouth became his best friends.
"I've organised a couple of reunions over the years and I have to admit, it gets easier each time as social media continues to evolve."
Friday night was meant to be an informal and low-key get-together at the Craic but, according to Dave, it turned into an all-nighter filled with old stories and laughter.
On Saturday, the group returned to Whakatane High for a tour of the school, class photos and a chat with current principal Chris Nielsen.
"Perhaps the biggest highlights of the Saturday were visits from former principal of 28 years Peter McLay and former teachers Terry Cass and Peter Dey," Dave said.
Mr Nielsen said it had been great to host the Class of 1975 Reunion.
"This is the second reunion in as many years. We had the class of 1965 last year," he said.
"Everything is building toward the Whakatane High School centennial in 2020."
Dinner was at Detour Bar and Lounge, where a few informal speeches took place. Sunday saw the group begin the day at The Whitehouse Cafe and continue festivities late into the evening at the Commercial Hotel. Get-togethers continued until yesterday
when the last of the visiting group left to go home.
"Everything went so well and everyone who came had such a great time. It was an awesome weekend," Dave said.
