Rotorua Cityride bus users will see a fare increase from next month however children, students, and seniors will get cheaper rides.

The Bay of Plenty Regional Council will introduce fare concessions from July 1.

Council public transport committee chairman Lyall Thurston said they wanted to increase patronage in an affordable way and make it equitable across the region.

"The Rotorua Cityride bus service currently charges a flat fare. In comparison, Tauranga offers a concession fare to children, students and seniors.

"This is a development that we felt was important to make available in Rotorua."
