St Faith's Anglican Church has been voted one of the top 10 landmarks in the country.

TripAdvisor, the world's largest travel website, announced its Travellers' Choice awards for landmarks last week.

The annual awards are based on the millions of reviews from TripAdvisor travellers across the globe. Award winners were determined using an algorithm that took into account the quantity and quality of reviews for landmarks worldwide, gathered over a 12-month period.

Reverend Poihaere Knight was surprised St Faith's came ninth on the list.

"It's really humbling to know that our little place at the base of Ohinemutu, right by the lake, gets that kind of attention.

"We have our large congregation and all the families associated with us, but when you get people from New Zealand and internationally saying it's a great place to go, it's awesome.

"We have church guides here at the moment, so it's quite a neat testimony to them too."

She said the church was getting more international visitors.

"With information getting out there about our service times and things like that, plus people taking the time out to come off the beaten track, there are more people taking the time out to come and visit during service time.

"I just met a young man today, Michael from Chile, so it doesn't matter what denomination you are, we all come under the same umbrella."

She said people often commented on the beauty of the church.

"One of the main ones is the beauty of the interior and exterior, and how well it's kept up and how clean it is.

"And then, of course, the inside, we have got our hosts who are there during the week as well. When it comes to service times, people have commented on how welcome they feel and it is not an act, it's the really heartfelt way of our congregation."

Auckland's Sky Tower took the top spot on the New Zealand list, with the Waitangi Treaty Grounds and Katiki Point Lighthouse taking second and third places.

"The Travellers' Choice Landmarks highlight some of the world's most iconic, must-see attractions that have won over the TripAdvisor community," TripAdvisor chief marketing officer Barbara Messing said.
