The Rotorua based BayTrust Rescue Helicopter was called to help an ambulance crew, dispatched to Ruatahuna, to transport an elderly patient with a serious medical condition.
The chopper was dispatched at 7pm yesterday. The man's condition was deteriorating so the ambulance crew asked for air support.
The chopper met theambulance at the Murupara Fire Station where the patient was transferred to the helicopter.
The 88-year-old Ruatahuna man was airlifted to Rotorua Hospital with a serious medical condition.
