More than two decades on, this year's Professionals McDowell Real Estate Child Cancer Charity Breakfast and Art Auction is looking to be the best yet, organisers say.

The annual event, which raises money for the local branch of the Child Cancer Foundation, was attended this morning by more than 300 people.

Organiser Carol de Farias said the Rotorua community was made up of "huge carers".

"It has been an unbelieveable event with people really getting into the spirit of charity."

The auction alone raised $21,640, and Ms de Farias said she was excited to tally the grand total.

"When you consider the ticket sales, raffle, spot prizes and silent auction, I think we're going to finish well above the mark this year which we're really excited about.

"Life can be tough for some families so it is heartwarming to see the community get together and show their support."

The final amount raised and the full story will be printed in tomorrow's edition of the Rotorua Daily Post.
