Latest Census figures show more than 2200 Maori affiliate to Ngati Rangitihi as their iwi.

The Te Arawa tribe has 53.8 per cent women and 46.1 men, with just over 28 per cent identifying Ngati Rangitihi as their sole iwi affiliation.

Statistics New Zealand's Census iwi profiles have been released, which gave a breakdown of the numbers of members living in each region throughout the country as well as information about language, education, income and housing.

According to the 2013 Census for Ngati Rangitihi:

• The median age was 28.7 years

• 26.7 per cent could hold a conversation about everyday things in te reo Maori.

For people aged 15 years and over affiliating with Ngati Rangitihi and living in New Zealand on March 5 2013:

• 48 per cent stated that they had never been a regular smoker

• 75 per cent held a formal qualification

• The median income was $25,100

• 73.4 per cent of those living in main urban areas were in the labour force.
