Mr Jing said a lot of people came in saying they had seen a wild cat down at the park or asked if they could adopt one of the cafe's cats, so they started thinking about how they could help.
He said this would give people who were looking to adopt a chance to go along, pet the cats and see their personalities.
He said for a working person cats made awesome pets.
SPCA Rotorua centre manager Sue Kennedy said they would take along three to six cats available for adoption.
If it proved popular they would look to hold more events on the last Sunday of each month over winter.
She said while the cafe had purebred cats, the SPCA had a lot of animals which may not be purebred but still needed love and had the same requirements.
"If you are an animal lover or cat lover and are thinking about getting a forever friend for your family this is a great opportunity to come meet some of our cats up for adoption."
