Rotorua car fire: Crews extinguish blaze in the eastern suburbs

Crews have extinguished a car fire in the eastern suburbs of Rotorua.

Footage sent to the Rotorua Daily Post showed large flames and plumes of black smoke coming from the front of a black car with a trailer attached.

A Fire and Emergency NZ spokeswoman said the car was “fully involved” in fire near the Te Ngae Rd and Coulter Rd intersection when crews arrived.

Crews were called about 8.30am.

“It appears to be a mechanical issue that caused the fire rather than anything suspicious,” the spokeswoman said.

The scene was left in the hands of police and the car owner.

A police spokesman said Coulter Rd had earlier been blocked with police providing traffic management.
