Car crashes into power pole in Rotorua's Western Heights

A car has crashed into a power pole on Gordon Rd in Western Heights, Rotorua.

A police media spokesman said police were called to the scene at 10.50am.

One car was involved in the crash and the multiple occupants had got out of the vehicle by the time police arrived.

"There is no suggestion of serious injuries," the spokesman said.

Fire and ambulance are also attending.

photographer at the scene said the road was closed between Fairview and Park Rds.

"I can see the power pole and lines are down," he said.

Unison is at the scene fixing the damage. Spokesman Danny Gough said the power pole was a low voltage service and only two customers were affected.

Tylan Moulder, 17, was driving behind the car that crashed.

"I was behind her, I thought she was turning and she went straight up the kerb and into the power pole.

"The lines came down and it was all on my car, tangled up."

She said it was a complete shock because everything had been normal before.

"The car was smoking, I ran over and there were two kids in the car with her."
