Three people sustained minor injuries after a car crashed into the storefront of a Westend shop, damaging a window and bursting a water main.

The car crashed into Brew Time on Old Taupo Rd yesterday, with police and ambulance called to the scene at 1.35pm.

The crash ruptured a water main so the council were notified, a police media spokeswoman said.

Lucky Star Indian takeaway employee Gagan Deep said the crash was a shock for everyone.

"It was a big noise," she said. "There were two ladies in the car, but they seemed okay, they just had injuries to their faces."

Mrs Deep said it was the first time she had seen a crash like this.

"I was so worried," she said.

A Rotorua hospital spokeswoman said three people came to the emergency department with minor injuries following the accident.

Two were discharged and one stayed in overnight under observation.
