Car crashes into bank on State Highway 36

A car has crashed into a bank on State Highway 36 the Tauranga Direct Rd.

The driver has been taken to Rotorua Hospital with moderate injuries.

A police media spokeswoman said the crash happened about 7.30am in the Mangorewa Gorge and the car is blocking one lane but traffic is still moving.

Passing motorists were helping with managing traffic.

Police and fire services are at the scene.

A tow truck has been called to the scene.
