A power outage caused by a car crash is currently affecting parts of Rotorua.

According to Unison, 225 customers are without power in the Mangakakahi area after a car crashed into a power pole bringing lines down on Edmund Rd overnight.

A section of Edmund Rd is closed with a cordon set up at the intersection with Sunset Rd.

Unison spokesman Danny Gough said all but 20 customers would have power restored within 45 minutes, however, customers in the immediate vicinity of the crash would be without power for around another four hours.
