Car catches fire after going off road

A car has caught fire after going off the road south of Rotorua.

The incident happened at 5pm last night about 7km south of Rotorua on State Highway 5.

Two fire appliances from Rotorua were at the scene and as well as police and ambulance.

A fire communications spokesperson said smoke was seen coming from the vehicle and one person was treated at the scene.

Their condition was unknown.
