The upcoming Turangi Tongariro byelection has generated plenty of interest from candidates.
Three candidates, all with local body experience, are seeking to fill the Turangi Tongariro ward seat left vacant following the resignation last month of Turangi Tongariro ward councillor Zane Cozens.
Former long-serving community board member and Turangi Tongarirocouncillor Maggie Stewart, who narrowly lost her seat to Mr Cozens at the last election, is making a bid to regain her council seat.
Another former Turangi Tongariro Community Board member, Chris Te Whare, is also seeking to fill the vacant council seat. The former Turangi police officer was on the community board for six years but stood down at the last election after shifting to Taupo.
He made an unsuccessful bid to gain election to council as a Taupo Kaingaroa representative at the last election.
The current Turangi Tongariro Community Board deputy chairman Te Takinga New is also seeking election as the ward's second representative on council.
Five candidates are contesting the seat on the six-member Turangi Tongariro Community Board left vacant following the resignation of first-term community board member Sally Nelson.
They are Cristina Duff, Clint Green, Pauline Jenkins-Lyons, Gus Kleingeld and John Rangituehu Tapara.
Voting papers will be posted out to all enrolled voters from September 14. Voting closes at noon on Friday, October 6. Preliminary results are due out the same day with final results announced on Monday, October 9.
