APPEALING: About 50 volunteers helped with the Rotorua Daily Post Salvation Army Christmas Appeal can drive last night.

The Rotorua Daily Post Salvation Army Christmas foodbank appeal 'can drive' hit a receptive note with residents in Westbrook, Pandora and Springfield.

Around 50 volunteers, including staff from the Rotorua Daily Post, Salvation Army, Rotorua Fire Brigade. Lake Okareka Volunteer Fire Brigade, Ritchies Transport and Rotorua MP Todd McClay and his youth advisory committee knocked on doors for two hours last night collecting.

Residents handed over a total of 2191 cans of food, homemade preserves and cash for the appeal which runs until Monday December 23.

Rotorua Daily Post editor Kim Gillespie said he wanted to thank not only those who donated items, but everyone who volunteered their time to collect.

Donations to The Rotorua Daily Post Christmas Appeal for the Salvation Army foodbank can be made at our Hinemoa St office between 8am and 5pm weekdays.
