Police continue to call for witnesses to come forward with information relating to two sexual assaults in Rotorua.

It's believed a 22-year-old woman was sexually assaulted at the Village Green opposite Pizza Hutt on Tutanekai St on Tuesday, January 21 about 7.45pm. A woman known only as Ann reported the incident to an employee at Pizza Hutt who in turn contacted police.

A second assault was reported on the same night at 9.15pm which occurred in the male toilets at the lakefront opposite Pizza Hut on Tutanekai St. Police were alerted to the incident by a couple. A 15-year-old girl may have been subject to a sexual assault. Both incidents are believed to be linked.

Detective Mihi Owen said investigations were continuing and police were still wanting to speak with the woman who reported the first assault to Pizza Hut. Police have spoken to the couple again who alerted the second incident to the custodial centre. Witnesses to either incidents are still being sought.

Anyone with information is asked to contact a Rotorua CIB detective on (021) 191 3601. Information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
