Rotorua's central-city retailers are being encouraged to open late on Thursday nights up to until Christmas.

The first late-night shopping is tonight, with many shops staying open until 7pm with the Night Market.

Inner City Focus Group spokesman Mike Steiner said the group wanted as many shops as possible to open late to add to the city's new Light Rotorua campaign.
