Rotorua's Life Education Trust has benefited from a local cafe's generosity of working for a day without being paid and giving away the proceeds.

Fat Dog Cafe manager Martin Kroese handed over a cheque for $3837.40 to trust chairman Russell Hallam last week.

The money was raised before Christmas when the popular local cafe donated proceeds from one Saturday to the organisation, with staff working free.

The cafe has supported the trust for several years by doing similar fundraisers.

Mr Hallam said fundraisers were crucial to making sure the programme was available to Rotorua students.

Locally it costs about $120,000 a year to run the programme which provides children with the knowledge to make informed choices about their health, to respect others and learn to appreciate their uniqueness.
