The Taupo-based Greenlea Rescue helicopter has had a busy day, rescuing three injured people in three separate incidents.

It was first dispatched to Rangatira Point on Lake Taupo at 11am where a 50-year-old man had slipped and badly injured his leg.

The incident happened at a place where access was difficult so the helicopter was tasked to pick up the patient and transport him to Rotorua Hospital for further treatment.

The second tasking was to the Tongariro river track near Turangi at 1pm where a 53-year-old female Australian tourist had fallen from her mountain bike and badly injured her leg.

This happened on a part of the track where once again, access was difficult to access by foot so the helicopter was dispatched to attend to the woman before being flown to Rotorua Hospital for further treatment.

The third tasking was to Whakapapa ski field at 4pm where an 11-year-old girl had fallen from her skis and suffered a back and hip injury. She could not be moved from where she had fallen.

The helicopter had to hover load her off the ski field before she was flown to Waikato Hospital for further treatment.
