Rotorua Lakes High School Year 9 student Kyra Mita travelled to Australia in the last school holidays to compete in the Trans Tasman Gubbi Gubbi Waka Ama Regatta at Lake Kawana on the Sunshine Coast.

Kyra paddled with the Hei Matau Waka Ama club and competed in both the U14 and the U16 division with great success.

Kyra went on to win two gold medals in the 16 and under 500m and 1000m categories, a silver medal in the 16 and under V12 500m and a bronze medal in the 14 and under UC1 250m OC1.

These are amazing results for a very talented and hardworking paddler who has a bright future in this sport.
