Two more Eat Streat businesses have responded to calls to open for breakfast by opening early at the weekend.

In January, the Rotorua Daily Post received complaints from locals and visitors that they were struggling to find restaurants and cafes open for breakfast in the city's recently completed Eat Streat dining precinct.

At the time just one restaurant was open for the breakfast crowd - Solace Cafe and Restaurant.

A few weeks later, Mac's Food and Wine - formerly Mac's Steaks - was also open for breakfast on the weekend only.

And, in the last month, Brew Craft Beer Pub has also opened for weekend breakfasts.

Brew bar manager Mel Rolfe said it was not worth the expense to open for breakfast during the week.

"We decided to add an extra offering after listening to feedback about not being open," she said.

"We'll see how it goes and if it doesn't work for us, we will let it go.

"We have had to hire four extra staff to cover those shifts."

Mac's Food and Wine co-owner Bob Macfarlane said opening early on the weekends had proven to be a good idea.

"It really was a suck it and see sort of thing. We are feeling our way to a certain extent to see what we can do to get extra business. We also changed our name to reflect that.

"The extended hours over the weekend have been good for us."

Jazzed Bar and Eatery restaurant manager Erin Cameron said they were still discussing whether to open for breakfast.

"It is something we would like to do in the near future, but we still need to get used to the new place and get everyone up to speed," she said.

Cafe Ephesus owner Niyazi Gunaydin said he would also consider opening for breakfast, but not this season, saying he would look at it for next summer.
