Great Lake Taupo is the place to be this Waitangi weekend, with a New Zealand Bomb competition and floating music festival.

Back by popular demand, the New Zealand Bomb Comp is set to crown the country's top water bombers as they take to the platforms to show the country what they've got - a sweet Manu, slick Staple or huge Ball Pop.

This year ZM is also hosting the country's first ever floating music festival, Flochella.

The free festival can be enjoyed from the water in a floatie or for those preferring dry land, the lakeside.

Bombers and festival-goers alike and are in for three days with a 10m high tower soaring above the waters of Wharewaka Point, a prize pool in excess of $15,000 and a massive rope swing.

Flochella will feature a host of New Zealand musicians including Theia, Maala, Mitch James and Jupiter Project.

The New Zealand Bomb Comp starts Saturday at 10am.

The event is open to all ages, is family friendly and strictly alcohol-free. There will also be a number of food and beverage vendors on site.

Flochella starts at 3pm on Sunday. ZM have 300 floaties to give out, but festival-goers are welcome to bring their own.

ZM content director Ross Flahive said his team were always looking to throw outside-the-box events for Kiwis.

"ZM is excited to bring together some great Kiwi acts for something completely different.

"This is something that's never been done here before and it's great to see New Zealanders have responded so well to the idea.
