Oregon-based Rogue Farms has the dubious distinction of having brewed one of the worst beers I have ever tasted. And now one of the best.

The offending brew was its Voodoo Doughnut Bacon Maple Ale - sounds great, tastes like bum.

But enough hating, cos there's lots to love about the Rogue Farms 7 Hop IPA.

It also happens to be the first overseas beer I have reviewed for this column.

Rogue have been at the forefront of the American craft beer revolution since the late 1980s.

The firm grows its own hops, malting barley, rye and a few other ingredients used in its eclectic brands of beer, spirits, cider and sodas.

The 7 Hop IPA is an American IPA and as you'd expect it's packed full of hoppy goodness and long-lasting aromas and flavour.

Man, does this brew pack a lot of awesome into one bottle.

If it suffered a little due to its long trip across the Pacific it certainly did not taste like it.

At 8 per cent it packs a punch but the brew is nicely balanced and really easy to drink.

It also comes in a big 650ml bottle and is competitively priced when compared to some top-quality Kiwi brews.

There was nothing bad I could find with this beer, it was all good. Just to confirm this I popped on to the ol' interweb to check the reviews - thousands agreed.
