IF YOU'RE looking for a reasonably priced, good quality craft beer then you can't go too far wrong with Galbraith's Czech-style pilsner.

It's a lightly flavoured brew - think of a Budweiser Budvar but a bit classier - and it's also been well received on ratebeer.com, scoring an average of about 3 out of 5.

It's also a lager (all pilsners are lagers) so it's not that scary for those who have an aversion to strongly flavoured craft beers.

However, due to the brewer sticking to the "classic European lager" recipe it's not as fruity or hoppy as many New Zealand-style pilsners, such as a Croucher or Emmerson's.

In sticking to the original Czech-style brew it's a bit too yeasty for my taste buds but if you like Steinlager Pure, Fosters, Carlsberg - or any mainstream lager for that matter - it's likely you will probably like this.

In fact, around half the world's beer is modelled from the pilsner-style lager so it probably won't taste a lot different, just a lot better.

Galbraith's do import some of their malts from the Czech Republic as well.

Galbraith's Alehouse is smack bang in the middle of Auckland on the corner of Symonds St and Mt Eden Rd and stocks a great range of craft beers from all over the country, as well as their own very popular brews including bitters, pale ales and IPAs.
