Rotoiti's backs used that platform well in a tense final quarter, first-five Te Hata Wilbore controlled the game behind his improving pack and his try in the 57th minute was the turning point. Little more than five minutes later Ormond's surge took Rotoiti deep into Te Teko territory and after a few phases they again prospered, scoring their fourth try.
It would be the match winner as Rotoiti snuffed out a couple of late Te Teko attacks to secure the victory.
Ormond was rapt with the win but says getting the numbers to play and train, is a challenge.
"The biggest thing for us that was not having enough ball. That will probably be one of our work-ons throughout the whole year. The boys are showing courage, they are going to fight through what they need to for the club," Ormond says.
The win was built on an efficient scoring ability, where Rotoiti made the most of the positive territory they had.
"We played in the right end in the second half and the halves controlled it better. We have five new forwards and some are probably out of position so we are up against it a little.
"When we did get there we turned it into points, but we are making it hard on ourselves because we struggle to get there."
Te Teko have returned to the premier division this season, after claiming a titles in the secondary tiers in recent years. Te Teko played the forward-driven style they are known for and coach Simon Geddes says his team realises if put they effort in they can foot it with teams at this level.
"We always pride ourselves on our scrum and we were rewarded for it. It is just the little things, we gave away a couple of easy tries in the first half when we were dominant," Geddes says.
We will close those gaps and get our systems more in place but we are pretty happy. We had five broken bones from the Whakarewarewa game the week before, but there is no excuse, we had the guys there to win the game today."
