Bay of Plenty Maori are invited to attend a conference aimed at showcasing Maori successes which is expected to provide an opportunity for networking.
The Bay of Plenty Regional Council conference Te Ahurangi is expected to enable Maori in the region to establish new relationships and build on existing networks,and provide a forum to share advice, experience and information. The theme will be "rangatiratanga in practice".
The hui will be held at Tangatarua Marae at Waiariki Institute of Technology on Monday, June 30. Maori interested in attended are asked to register with the regional council.
Several speakers will be on offer and delegates will hear about the future health and wellbeing of our freshwater resources and its importance for iwi and New Zealand.
Renewable energy will be the subject of one workshop which will showcase a hapu-based project at Omaio and delegates will receive an overview of the Maori economy and New Zealand's first Maori economic development strategy, which was recently launched in the Bay of Plenty.
Delegates will also have the opportunity to learn about Maori ocean voyaging and hear a rangatahi (young person) perspective on participation in local government.
It is the second Maori conference hosted by the Bay of Plenty Regional Council and is free.
Organisers expect the full complement of 150 attendees.
