A one-year-old Bay of Plenty boy has been urgently flown to Starship Hospital.

The boy needed specialist treatment after the Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Whakatane Hospital on Saturday to pick him up for the urgent transfer.

In the return flight to Tauranga, rescue helicopter pilots used night vision goggles.

The following day, a 72-year-old woman needing immediate hospital care due to a serious medical condition was picked up from Te Kaha Medical Centre and flown to Whakatane Hospital for treatment.
