A car caught fire after hitting a tree near Murupara yesterday.

A police media spokeswoman said the incident, on Middle Rd, was reported about 3.10pm.

It appeared the fire may have been the result of a vehicle colliding with a tree shortly after 3pm, she said.

At St John spokeswoman said one ambulance attended the incident and took a person with moderate injuries to Rotorua Hospital.
