One person is seriously injured after being hit by a car near Okere Falls.

A police spokeswoman said they were called to the scene on State Highway 33 about 3km north of the Okere bridge at 8.57am.

One lane was blocked, she said.

A St John spokesman said one person had been taken to Rotorua Hospital by ambulance with serious injuries.
