Car on fire in Taupō street

A car is on fire in Taupō this morning.

The fire service alerted police to the fire on Taharepa Rd at 11.45am, a police spokeswoman said.

She said traffic control was in place.

A Northern Fire communications spokesman said a car was on fire at the intersection of Taharepa Rd and Hatepe Ave.

They were called at 11.30am.

The fire did not appear to be caused by a crash but couldn't say what caused it.

The fire was reported by the owner of the car.
