Kiwis have seen some interesting collaborations, such as the Whittakers chocolate and Garage Project beer mix, but not one as far-fetched as this.

Wattie's has announced on social media that it is launching a limited edition Tomato Sauce Ripple ice cream with Tip Top — however many have questioned its legitimacy.

In a Facebook post it wrote: "It's happening! We've teamed up with Tip Top Ice Cream to create this wonderful limited edition ice cream. Anyone keen to try it when it's ready?"

The post also features a photo of the bizarre ice cream — and it kind of looks delicious (but it probably wouldn't be).

Kiwis left many comments, with some disgusted people suggesting the flavour was not needed.

"Just because you can doesn't mean you should," one person wrote.

Another wrote: "I'm that guy who would put tomato sauce on anything. But this, this is an abomination."

Others however believe that Wattie's may be pulling our legs, believing that the whole thing is a joke.

"Bit early for April fools," one wrote.

Another agreed writing: "It's not April 1st Watties....go home, you're drunk."

Wattie's' announcement comes after Seven Sharp presenters Hilary Barry and Jeremy Wells tried tomato sauce with ice-cream — possibly making the Wattie's, Tip Top collaboration a hoax.
