Hundreds of people have attended the full military funeral of Brigadier General Ian Thorpe.

Hundreds of people have attended the full military funeral of Brigadier General Ian Thorpe in Rotorua today.

Thorpe (Brig. Gen 31359) had a military career that spanned more than 50 years, during which he served two monarchs and two countries - New Zealand and Fiji.

Thorpe died on Sunday aged 88, just days after he celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary with his dearly loved wife, Pat

After his casket was lowered at the Sala St Cemetery, a haka was performed by members of the New Zealand Army and the Last Post was played.

Three shots rang out, known as the feu de joie, an honour bestowed on a fallen soldier.

The final salute to Brigadier General Ian Thorpe - a mighty leader and true gentleman.
