Novotel Rotorua is getting into the wedding spirit this weekend, hosting a screening of the royal wedding, complete with scones.

Organisers are urging Rotorua locals to join in and get dressed up for the big night.

Kristen Pirie, who is organising the event, said she was a bit of a royalist.

"I absolutely love the royals. My mum loved Princess Diana and I remember watching her funeral and really everything to do with the royals with my mum growing up."

The hotel will be showing the royal wedding from 9pm to include some of the build-up, Pirie said.

"We will be giving away a scone and cream with every beverage purchased."

Pirie said she had been hunting out decorations and Clarke's Bar would be "all decked out for the occasion".

"It's free for all, to just come along and enjoy the wedding together.

"Please come along all dressed up."

As for what Meghan Markle would be wearing on her big day, Pirie expected it to be something in a similar style to Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge on her wedding day.

"I just love the build-up, seeing what everyone is wearing, who's going to be there, all of the famous faces.

"There's always that little bit of drama."
