Community groups from Rotorua and the surrounding area have received more than $308,000 in grants from The Southern Trust in the first quarter of 2018.

The funding is from the $2,574,485 that the trust allocated for community groups from Northland to Southland to support their programmes.

Trust figures showed 333 community groups received grants between January 1 2018 and March 31 2018.

The Southern Trust chief executive officer and trustee Karen Shea said they were pleased to assist community organisations the length and breadth of the country.

Community organisations throughout New Zealand can apply for funding, with the trust continually reviewing applications and most processed within 20 working days.

Requests larger than $30,000 are reviewed at the monthly Board of Trustees meetings.

Shea said community organisations considering applying for funding should first call The Southern Trust funding team on 0800 4 CHARITY (0800 424274).

"Our team can easily advise on application criteria, which can save organisations a lot of time," she said.
