"I think they were generally quite pleased. People were pretty stoked to receive something for Mother's Day."
Rotorua mother Frances Turpie, who was the winner of a photography package covering a shoot session and canvas, said she was stoked when she found out.
She is looking forward to getting a decent photo of the family, with her partner Matt O'Connor and three boys - Joel, 17, Drew, 12, and Rhys, 9.
Turpie thought the giveaway provided by mum-run businesses was a great idea and a good way to promote them.
She said Mother's Day was usually just another day, with maybe breakfast in bed.
"Hopefully the kids won't fight. That's my only wish."
Turpie was a believer that Mother's Day should be any day, not just on one day.
"It's always nice to have little things done for you anytime, but making a special day is quite important for a lot of parents."
For those who would like to celebrate by getting crafty, a Mother's Day Weekend Mad Hatters Tea Party and Ceramic Painting is being held at Paradise Fusion Studio on Saturday.
Those who attend will paint a small piece of crockery, such as a tea cup and saucer or mug.
There will then be a fun mad hatters tea party - similar to high tea.
It costs $35 per person, which includes a ceramic of your choice, paint and glaze, and food.
There will also be a mad hatters hat competition with prizes for any children or adult who want to make and bring a hat.
For more details and to book, call (021) 201 8580 or email info@jbcollections.co.nz.
Mamaku Blue Blueberry Experience and Winery is running a sparkling breakfast and Devonshire tea to celebrate the day.
Manager Jill Thomas said this was their first time running this for Mother's Day.
"Why not treat our mothers, and let them have the morning and day off."
She said the breakfast and Devonshire tea would be running all day, with people having a choice of pancakes, crepes or any one of the pies.
"It's just a special price for a special day to celebrate special people."
Another way to treat the special mother in your life is give them a night off cooking with the Mother's Day Special Dinner at Prince's Gate Hotel on Sunday, 6pm to 10pm.
