Two men have robbed a Whakatane dairy armed with wooden weapons.

The robbery happened at the Mananui Dairy on James St this morning.

About 7.10am two men entered the premises with their faces covered, carrying wooden weapons and stole cigarettes before fleeing the scene, said Sergeant Ray Wylie of Eastern Bay of Plenty Police.

The dairy owner was in the shop at the time, but was not injured.

Whakatane CIB are investigating the incident, and they ask that anyone who was in the area at the time of the robbery and may have information that could assist to please get in touch.
