The following incidents were reported to Rotorua police during the past few days:
A tip off from a member of the public resulted in a man being arrested for having a sawn-off shotgun hidden in his car.
Rotorua police crime prevention manager Inspector Stuart Nightingale said a person called police when they saw a man climbing through the window of a house in Wallace Cres on Sunday night.
Police found the man in a car nearby. They searched the car and found a sawn-off shotgun and six rounds of ammunition.
"It was great work from the public and from the police."
A man was in custody and was to appear in the Rotorua District Court this week facing a range of charges, Mr Nightingale said.
Shoplifter and hit-and-run driver
Police say they have received a huge amount of feedback from members of public to identify a woman shoplifter involved in a hit and run incident in Rotorua Central on the afternoon of Saturday, September 23.
Police released security camera footage of the woman to the Rotorua Daily Post last week.
The woman ran from Bed Bath & Beyond with items she hadn't paid for and got into a waiting getaway car.
Two men, Kevin Page and Ray Holmes, tried to stop the car driving off but the man driving the car sped towards them. Mr Page was run over, suffering a badly injured foot, and Mr Holmes sprained his ankle after riding the bonnet of the car for about 15m.
Mr Nightingale said police knew who the woman and the driver were and were getting good information from the public as to their whereabouts.
