Shed catches fire at Fordlands property

A shed at the rear of a derelict property in Fordlands has caught fire.

The Fire Brigade in Rotorua was called to the Wrigley Rd property just before 3pm today after neighbours noticed the shed on fire.

Senior Station Officer Colin Rolfe said the house on the property had been burnt down several years ago and remained derelict since.

He said it was too early to tell how the fire started but it was likely to have been deliberately lit.

"Probably some kids in the area. There's a whole lot of rubbish inside the shed which is on fire."

It didn't take long for fire crews to bring the fire under control.
