A 33-year-old mountain biker airlifted from dense bush east of Rotorua remains in hospital with suspected spinal injuries.

A spokesman said today the woman is in a stable condition.

The spokesman confirmed the woman was 33, not 35 as previously reported.

A personal locator beacon was activated on Sunday around midday near the Pakihi Hut, 23km from Opotiki.

Paramedics from the BayTrust Rescue Helicopter/Philips Search & Rescue Trust were dispatched to the scene by the Rescue Co-ordination Centre of NZ, and the woman was airlifted out.
