Mr Nightingale said the items included a laptop and a wallet.
"For someone to get up in the morning and find their car broken into is really upsetting," he said.
"Clearly there was someone walking around late at night that was up to no good and we would like to hear from any members of the public who saw anything suspicious."
Mr Nightingale said this was a timely reminder not to leave any valuables in your car overnight.
Stolen vehicles
The following vehicles were stolen from Rotorua during the past week.
A white 1990 Nissan Datsun ute, registered ZH4967, was stolen and a red 2012 Mazda CX5, registered GH5699, was taken from a garage on Moncur Dr.
Mr Nightingale said the owners of the Mazda were home at the time of the theft, overnight on Saturday, and it was worrying that the thief had gone inside for the keys.
If you know who has these vehicles, contact police immediately.
Theft from tourists
Two Fenton St motels and a vehicle parked outside the Polynesian Spa were broken into overnight on Saturday.
"Traditionally Fenton St is a well-lit area," Mr Nightingale said.
"This is really concerning because this is our tourists we're talking about.
"They've come here to have a good time and now they've become victims."
Police find stolen car
After a tip-off this weekend Rotorua police were able to find a stolen vehicle.
"Police found and stopped a Jeep worth $50,000 that had been stolen in another district," Mr Nightingale said.
Thanks to help from the public police were able to safely stop and retrieve the vehicle, he said.
