Kawerau locals are preparing to face off against a panel of Parliamentary candidates and local councillors in an event urging young people to vote in this year's election.

The "Do you even vote?" event aimed to encourage 18-29-year-olds to have their say on election day and promises to be a
battle of wits.

"Think 7 Days meets Back Benches," said organiser Jacqueline Godfery.

Participating will be local councillor Nandor Tanczos, Labour candidates Tamati Coffey and Kiri Allan, and Green MP Gareth Hughes.

"This is a chance for everyone to meet the candidates, enrol and have their say on the issues that matter. Plus it'll be fun and we have a box of prizes up for grabs," she said.

"Families and older people are also welcome to attend."

The event is Friday September 8 from 5-7pm at the Kawerau Concert Chambers.
