Sections of State Highway 2 at Waimana Gorge and Waioeka Gorge should open tonight.

The sections of State Highway 2 at Waimana Gorge and Waioeka Gorge closed after slips yesterday are expected to open tonight.

The New Zealand Transport Agency have asked people to delay their travel or use an alternative route, such as State Highway 30 through Whakatane and Wainui Rd for Waimana Gorge, while the roads are closed.

The agency said people should check the website or call the 0800 number before they leave for their journey and take extra care if they decide to take an unfamiliar route.

If it is unsafe to open the road or if the situation changes the latest information will be published at www.nzta.govt.nz/traffic.

For real time information on highway conditions and incidents or to report issues on the network visit www.nzta.govt.nz/traffic, call 0800 4 HIGHWAYS (0800 44 44 49) or follow the New Zealand Transport Agency on Facebook or @nztawaibop on twitter.
