Temperatures officially plummeted to -0.1 this morning between 4am and 6am today.
Today and yesterday were equally the coldest mornings so far in May.
On May 15 and May 6 we woke to temperatures of 1 degrees C.
It's been a mixed bag month with some relatively warm mornings too, with lows recorded on May 11 of 14C and May 17 and 18 of 12C, according to the MetService website.
The foggy conditions this morning saw some flights delayed at Rotorua Airport.
Mt Tarawera is sporting a light dusting of snow after the cold temperatures at the weekend.
The cold blast and snow also closed the Desert Rd/State Highway 1 in the central North Island at the weekend.
The MetService website shows the temperatures in Rotorua will warm up as the week goes on.
