I would like to see our children growing up in a safe, loving, nurturing and healthy environment.
This is the greatest challenge for Rotorua police in 2017 and we will be working closer than ever with our iwi, partners, communities, and most all, our people to achieve this.
Ki mai ki au he aha te mea nui o tenei ao maku e ki atu - he tangata, he tangata, he tangata.

Rotorua mayor Steve Chadwick
I want to see our community more united over the way forward for the next three years.
We will be coming to the community for your feedback on our new approach, called the Rotorua Way, that's been developed by the new council, community boards and Te Tatau o Te Arawa.
We need to keep going on investment in sustainable growth and development and we have a very real need for a district housing plan and more industrial development.
Your new council is determined to work together to get more exciting things done for our fabulous district.

Maori Party co-leader and MP for Waiariki Te Ururoa Flavell
I want to see Rotorua free of homelessness, where whanau remain strong and where whanau in need are supported.
It's important to keep building our economy to create more employment and thereby opportunities to escape issues of deprivation and poverty.
Homelessness is still an issue in our city, so tackling this is very important to me.
It will take a community effort to resolve homelessness and if there is one thing Rotorua is great at it is coming together in times of need.
Overall, I want to see more whanau ora in action.

Madelyn Skilton, 18, organiser of the Amjazz Charity Youth Ball
I'd like to see more encouragement for young people to get involved in local council, either voluntary or paid, and possibly short term training or work experience opportunities.
This would help to get young people interested and involved in community issues and create awareness of possible career opportunities.
My hope is that young people will be encouraged to know more about how their community works and that councillors should consider their views.

Rotorua MP and Cabinet Minister Todd McClay
In 2016 Rotorua's economy has seen strong growth, new businesses and more jobs.
Home values have improved, our city is growing and we now have a solid base to build a more vibrant community.
In 2017 you will see more investment in infrastructure and in people.
I'll work to deliver more funding for Rotorua roads, we need land for more houses and support for temporary accommodation.
Health and education will remain priorities. I will remain passionate about Rotorua.

New Zealand First list MP based in Rotorua Fletcher Tabuteau
That people remain prosperous in the New Year and the district goes from strength to strength.
Challenges for us as MPs is to make sure our current prosperity reaches those who need it the most.
It's an election year this year, and I'd like to hear people not talking so much about politics, but instead what is important to them and then letting their MPs know.
The frustration is that during an election everything becomes politics and not what is important to people in their everyday lives.

Rotorua Daily Post people of the year Gina and Elmer Peiffer of Love Soup Rotorua
What Love Soup Rotorua would love to see for 2017 would be availability and affordability of housing.
To see places like Kuirau Park be utilised for the local families to enjoy.
Finally, to see people once again offer a friendly hello to people they pass on the street, because that could make their day.

Rotorua Chamber of Commerce acting chief executive Allison Lawton
I want Rotorua to continue its stellar economic growth to give our business leaders the confidence to take the next steps in their growth strategies.
I hope they will apply a balanced approach to their strategies by considering the economic, social, cultural and environmental impacts to make our wonderful city even more vibrant.
Councillors voted to restart works in public-excluded part of meeting.
